Jowilna's take on our album

As promised, today it is time to showcase the pictures of the mixed media album Jowilna Nolte created for Pics 'n Tales. I love how Jowilna and Cariena's front covers look similar, but that they ended up creating albums quite different from each other, with the same supplies.

Jowilna created a sweet "clothes line" page, using different techniques. Then she used sheer leaves as wings to add a special touch to a Tim Holtz dress from on the next page:

Thank you, Jowilna! We hope that you've enjoyed this project!

A little Cariena magic!

In Afrikaans, we say "as dit pap reen, moet jy skep". In English, we say "make hay while the sun shines". In Cape Town, we say "when there is a convention at Spier, get Cariena Basson to attend a Pics 'n Tales class...

Thank you for a great morning, Cariena! We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Have a look at our FB page for few pics...

A while ago, I asked Cariena and Jowilna Nolte to each complete a Pics 'n Tales mixed media album which we had recently launched. Imagine my delight when both such talented scappers agreed to do this! I felt like a child the night before Christmas when I went to the post office to collect my parcels...

The album was titled "Free to be...", and the idea was to use different mediums and techniques all in one album.

Since Cariena visited us this week, I will share her album with you first. So sit back and enjoy the show!

The album covers are canvases that were painted, stamped and then some. Then the lovely Tim Holtz lady found a home on the cover. Each of Cariena's pages shows something that she is "free to be". Really an inspirational take on the theme, reminding us of all those things that we so easily take for granted.

Thanks Cariena! We hope you enjoyed playing with our kit!

Mixed media class sneek peek

Ladies, you don't want to miss this! Our mixed media mini album is sooo full of techniques and interesting little surprises! Here is a little sneek peek to get you interested:

Don't miss out - contact us at info@picsntales.co.za to book your place.

In this album, you will create the album covers using two 6 x 12 canvases, which you will decorate with paint, ink, stamps, rub-ons and dress makers patterns. The inside of the album will include pages that are "scrapped with a bit of ink, paint and a whole lot of embellishments", as well as two mini artworks inspired by the very talented Christi Tomlinson.

To add excitement to the whole project, we have two completed albums by our very own Jowilna Nolte and Cariena Basson as further examples of what you can achieve using the materials in this jam-packed kit. We will post photos of the pages completed by these two talented ladies next week, so be sure to check back here.

Money for nothing

No, not for nothing - for scrapbooking!!

Another recent project at Pics 'n Tales, was a money box, decorated with the left over paper from our Woman's Day layout. As those who know me will tell you, pink is not my favourite colour... So instead of using the left overs from a pink layout (which I designed!?!), I opted for some Graphic 45 paper depicting a world map.

The "memory file" tab comes from the packaging of a set of Heidi Swapp stamps. The suitcase was cut from an image created with a more detailed stamp, which I also used on the other side of the money box.

Little banners were created using a Tim Holtz die and a toothpick. A punched out envelope and another word cut from the Heidi Swapp packaging finishes off this side of the money box.

For the next side, I used a Kaiser Kraft stamp, which I stamped on different papers as well as on the map background of the money box. I cut out the different components of the stamped images and then rebuilt the image using components from each of the different backgrounds. I glazed the pink inside of the suitcase.

Instead of the stamped crown, I used a metal crown, to which I added a few drops of Stickles to create "diamonds".

I repeated the banners on the last side of the money box. This time, I first stamped a word on the background, and completed the title with Pink Paislee stickers, before I added more banners and a little camera.

Now all that remains, is for the money box to receive its first deposit!!

A different take

I finally completed the off-the-page project which I started at the Pics 'n Tales Woman's Day event. Ezme created a gorgeous money box and a door hanger, which very appropriately says "Me time"... I decided to use different paper from the kit for the door hanger, and came up with this version:

I don't know why I love grey and charcoal shades so much at the moment. The raw chipboard and the pink flowers and butterfly adds a bit of a feminine touch. I've added self-adhesive pearls around the picture frame for an extra bit of detail.

Here is a closer look:

The butterfly was punched from patterned paper and then glazed. A nice way to compliment the vintage photo in the frame!

Woman's day event

Our Woman's Day event was a huge success, thanks to all the hard work that Ezme put into it, and the ladies who attended it, making it such a fun day! We created a beautiful double page layout in soft colours, and as always, seeing the end results with all the different photographs, was amazing.

Between all the lucky draws, tea breaks and a stunning lunch, we also created two off the page projects. One was a beautiful door hanger, entitled "me time". Just perfect to let the rest of the family know when you need a bit of time to play with your scrap stash... The other was a money box, for all those loose coins, so that spending money on even more stash doesn't have to way so heavy on the conscience!

We still have a few kits for sale, so please contact us at info@picsntales.co.za to reserve your kit.

Woman's Day Event

We are hosting our annual Woman's Day Event again!

This year, we will get the show on the road at 10h00, so that there is enough time for your family to spoil you a little bit first...

We are going to create a whimsical layout in soft pinks and greens, with a touch of charcoal and cream for interest. Black and white photos will work well on this layout. Here is a little sneak peek:

The layout is entitled "Little windows into the soul" and refers to the eyes, which is often described as such. The main photo is a 6 x 8" photo which, in the example, is a close-up of someone's face.

In addition to the layout, we are also going to decorate a nifty little off the page item, which will come in very handy in your scrap room!

So come and join us on the 9th of August for a morning filled with fun and laughter, and two beautiful projects. You can book your place at info@picsntales.co.za, or respond to our "event" on our Facebook place.
