A big thank you

Our Retreat in Yzerfontein was a HUGE success! Thank you to everyone who attended, worked behind the scenes, and sponsored us - you all helped to make the event really special.

We had a wonderfully creative weekend, where the ladies completed three projects (a double page layout, a mini album and a box containing cards and gift tags) and two bonus projects (cards and Tim Holtz inspired tags). I will post a few pictures of the projects in the days to come.

However, today I would like to thank our generous sponsors for their contribution to our goodie bags, lucky draws and snacks for the weekend. Without their generosity, our weekend would have been quite different...

You can help us show your appreciation by supporting the following companies whenever you get the opportunity:

Alhambra, Spain

This layout was something I created "just for fun", which is not something I get to do often enough these days. The real beauty of this layout, is that I DID NOT BUY A THING to complete it... It really is amazing what you find once you start going through your stash. Who would've thought?!

This photo was taken years ago in Spain. I love the little fountains in the foreground, and really had fun choosing embellishments that would add little details to the overall picture in the same way that the fountains seem to do to the photograph.

Sneak peek of this weekend's class

I still don't understand why the Ces't la Vie range from Bo Bunny caught my eye. Actually, I really like the paper. What I don't understand, is why I like the purple one?

Here is a little sneak peek of a layout titled "Somewhere over the rainbow", which we are doing this weekend.

The layout incorporates quite a few fun elements, such as the most adorable heart shaped hat pins and tiny flowers, stamping on fabric, and beautiful bunting. The theme can be used for travel pictures, or even just a nostalgic event. We are going to use 6 photographs in this layout, including an 8 x 10" enlargement.

Hope to see you at class!

Scrapbooking sketches...

I love working with scrapbooking sketches. They are such an easy source of inspiration when you need it, and they are readily avaiable on the internet. I love how the results always differ from the original sketch, and that you can really take a basic idea and make a layout that is true to your own style of scrapbooking.

But what I like most, is when I change a sketch, or even combine two sketches, and then go with my own ideas anyway... This is exactly how this layout was born:

I kept some of the basic ideas, such as the placement of the photographs, and the very cute, but oh so tiny pieces of cardstock with a single cross stitch embroidered onto it. Can't help it - I love the details!

I've used paper from Prima, October Afternoon and Fancy Pants. The embellishments include heart pins from Typo, journaling blocks from Basic Grey, grungeboard hinges from Tim Holtz 7Gypsies paper tape, a bit of bling and a few stamped images. None of it was bought with the idea that it would be used together, but there you have it!

First "teaser" for class at Yzerfontein Retreat

Here it is!

As you can see, the colour scheme for our mini album project at the Yzerfontein Retreat in June is white, blue and brown. I am not going to say anything else about it at this stage, except that it is beautiful, and you should really be there!

Itz van Allez scrapbooking event

Pics 'n Tales will be presenting quite a number of classes at the "Love 2 Create" event hosted by Itz van Allez this year! Be sure to book your seats, as the event is next weekend...

We will be creating a few very quick and simple mini albums, which are so versatile, you will use this idea again and again. Here are a few pics of the examples:

Hope to see you there!

Just because

This must be one of my favourite pictures of my son. It was taken at Langebaan sometime in 2012. I wanted to create a layout that was (then) something a little different for me.

I literally searched through my stash and pulled out everything and anything that could possibly work on this layout...

... and then used almost all of it!

Anyway, I quite like how it turned out. Thanks for looking!
